Dishwasher advice

Dishwasher not draining: checks before a repair

A drainage symptom can have several causes. Record what the dishwasher does and stop using it if there is leaking near electrics, burning, smoke or repeated circuit tripping.

Record the exact symptom

Note whether water remains in the base, whether the pump can be heard, when the programme stops and whether a fault code appears. Record the code exactly and include the make and model in the repair enquiry.

Safe external checks

  • Confirm the programme has finished and was not paused
  • Look for a visibly kinked drain hose where it is accessible
  • Follow the manufacturer's user instructions for cleaning an owner-accessible filter
  • Check whether the sink connected to the waste hose is also draining slowly
  • Take a clear photo of the display or visible standing water if it is safe

When to stop

Do not remove fixed panels, dismantle the pump or tip a connected dishwasher. Stop using it if water is leaking toward electrical parts, it smells of burning, it smokes or it trips the electrics.
